Introduction

Art is an expression that has always intrigued me and piqued my interest in learning more about it. I got on the journey of understanding more about art and trying my hands at it when I chose fine arts as a subject in school. That is why, today, I want to share about a painting I am particularly drawn to. 

When did you first see this painting?

I first saw Tanjore Art when I visited a family friend in Chennai. In South India, it is commonly known as Thanjavur paintings. I saw it at a family friend’s house when I went on vacation. 

What is the painting about?

The painting is based on the Hindu deity Shri Tirupati Balaji. The highlight of the painting is that it is adorned in gold, and it highlights the details of the deity’s ornaments and other small things.

Who drew/painted it?

The painting was drawn by a local artist in Tamil Nadu, as it is a famous art form in the city. Earlier in the 16th century, it was a very popular art form but watered down with time and other techniques. 

Why do you like this drawing/painting?

I like this painting first because it showcases the richness and eccentricity of Indian art. Secondly, this art form very precisely depicts the intricacies and details of the painting, which makes it even more beautiful. Lastly, the painting and the art form intrigued me because they can be produced by drawing any form of God. 

Conclusion

To conclude, the Tanjore painting of Shri Tirupati Balaji was one of the few paintings, because of which I developed an interest in paintings.

Introduction

Art is usually interpreted as beautiful and something in which people invest sufficient time and effort, but the journey of art starts with the creativity that a child experiences. Today, I am going to share about a painting that made me want to paint, too.

When did you first see this painting?

I saw the drawing when I was a toddler because my mother drew it. I always asked her how she did the painting, how much time she invested in making it, how much patience she had to sit and draw it, and so on.

What is the painting about?

The painting was of a toy train that runs in Shimla. When I asked why she drew it, she told me that it was an experience she reminisced about the most and thoroughly enjoyed when she was a kid, and she wanted to convert that into a permanent memory.

Who drew/painted it?

My mother drew that painting when she was a young girl. She has always been interested in art and learned it as well. She used oil paints to draw the painting and took good care of it, which is why it is still intact. 

Why do you like this drawing/painting?

I like the painting because it has bright colours and is soothing. I started liking that painting even more when I grew up because I understood how much time and effort it took to make it.

Conclusion

To sum up, I have been interested in art, drawing, and painting because of my mother. She has always helped me, even as a kid, when I wanted to draw or paint. Likewise, I would say that it is not necessary for one to like paintings by a famous artist. Moreover, you can enjoy art from anyone.

Question- What role do you think art plays in society?

Answer- Art plays a vital and multifaceted role in impacting society as it shapes culture, sparks social change, and is a form of expression. Art has the power of being timeless and conveys strong messages throughout. Several famous paintings, like the Mona Lisa, the Starry Night, Bharat Mata, and many more, played a crucial role in society.

Question- Have you ever attempted to recreate or draw inspiration from this painting for your creative projects?

Answer- Yes, I have. Being an art enthusiast and fine arts student, I tried replicating the Tanjore art without the actual gold. Along with it, I tried my hands at modern art forms using various colour mediums, like the oil paints that Raja Ravi Varma made famous. Along with replicating various paintings, I have also drawn inspiration from them due to their cultural themes and artistic styles. 

Question- What emotions do you experience when looking at this painting?

Answer- While looking at the different forms of art, I feel extremely proud and enriched by the rich Indian culture and heritage. I am also proud that some of the knowledge of Indian history can be passed on to the youth through these paintings.
