Describe a person you would like to study or work with - IELTS cue card

Overview

One of the exams required for a student to pursue study abroad is the IELTS speaking exam. You must understand the main sections of the speaking exam. The exam consists of three rounds: the introduction round is the first round, and the second round requires you to respond to a cue card during the exam.

The cue card part of the IELTS speaking test contains various questions, and one such popular question is “Describe a person you would like to study or work with”. However, it can be challenging for you to answer each question accurately. Therefore, in this blog, we have provided some model answers below to help you understand how to appear for these types of questions.

Describe a person you would like to study or work with cue card - sample answer 1

Introduction

My office's CEO, Mrs. Shah, is a diligent worker. In my career, this is the first time I have encountered someone as active as this. She never debates with others, even when they are in error, and she has a remarkable ability to dazzle audiences with her talks. Even though she works for the same firm as me, I would still like to collaborate closely with her since it would be an excellent opportunity for me to learn a lot from this outstanding individual.

Who is that person?

Mrs. Shah oversees the local manufacturing company where I work in Ahmedabad. Despite the limited number of times I've seen him, I have no doubts about her leadership abilities. In addition, she holds a prominent position in the local business group. She thus leads an extremely hectic schedule.

Why would you like to study with him/her?

It has been four years since I joined her company. I started working for her company right after I graduated, and I have yet to look for work elsewhere. Moreover, I want to stay in the team as long as possible. I've had a couple of encounters with her during this period. Every time I've seen her, I've gained fresh knowledge.

What will you study?

Collaborating with Mrs. Shah will enhance my expertise and abilities. In addition, she enjoys imparting his knowledge and is encouraging to her employees. Ultimately, I hope to keep working with Mrs. Shah in order to absorb her visionary and leadership traits.

Conclusion

I am truly glad to be a part of and work for her organisation.

Introduction

I find it difficult to study around others, so I usually study by myself. But occasionally, I don't feel like studying, so it'd be helpful if someone could inspire me. In addition, studying physics by myself is uninteresting. I do like studying alongside someone else in these situations.

Who is that person?

Vikas was a classmate of mine in the ninth grade, and a lot of my acquaintances said that he was an excellent study companion. Thus, I would like to study with him if I ever get the chance.

Why would you like to study with him/her?

He possesses numerous special traits. First of all, he always understood things extremely fast due to his excellent gripping power. He has a great deal of patience as well. Friends have told me he can sit and explain topics for hours on end. He excels in mnemonics, which I believe would be highly beneficial for me as memorising facts and statistics has always been one of my biggest study challenges.

What will you study?

He is currently pursuing a master's degree in finance in the United Kingdom. He attends the same college that I would like to go to. I was hoping we could meet up there and work on something together.

Conclusion

Apart from this, I am glad that I have got someone who can provide me with advice

Describe a person you would like to study or work with cue card - sample answer 3

Introduction

I count it a great blessing that I have so many wonderful people in my life as friends, relatives, acquaintances, and coworkers. I would like to collaborate professionally with such people in the future, and here I will mention one person's name.

Who is that person?

He’s none other than my uncle. Despite his age of 55, I freely characterise him as an “evergreen” individual who never becomes weary of working, and I have known him since my early youth. I haven't often seen my uncle leave late for work (when leaving his house) or leave work (when returning home) in his 10 years as a senior accountant.

Why would you like to study with him/her?

I would like to work with him because of his exceptional time management, responsibility, and caring abilities. If the response is "yes," then I would also add that I would absolutely like to work with my uncle because of his unwavering smile, positive outlook on life, high degree of confidence, honesty/truthfulness, tact, and capacity to remain composed under pressure.

What will you study?

I was not very good at math, so I took his guidance and support until I received my bachelor's degree. His perseverance and faith in me helped me to do well in my math class, and I am grateful that he helped me through it.

Conclusion

I am extremely grateful for having such an admiring family member who has taught me a lot.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Follow-up Questions

Question: What kind of people do you like to study or work with?

Answer: I would rather work or study with someone who is reliable since I don't want any kind of interruption. Aside from this, I enjoy studying with educated, helpful, and cooperative people because I take my work and studies very seriously. If I work with these kinds of people, I can easily share knowledge with them, learn from them, and understand them without encountering any problems.

Question: Do you think managers can be friends with their subordinates?

Answer: These days, managers are very available and helpful in a variety of ways, and also subordinates directly report to managers, so in some way or another, they become your friends only.

Question: Which one is more important for you at work, the development of work-related skills or the recognition from your supervisor?

Answer: Enhancing one's work-related talents is more significant than receiving praise from a superior because both income increases and career advancements are contingent on performance. While I believe receiving praise from a supervisor might help improve one's image, improving one's work-related skills would help both the company and the employees.

Question: Should children be allowed to choose whom they want to sit with, or should the teacher decide it?

Answer: Children should undoubtedly participate in management activities and be assigned minor leadership and monitoring responsibilities. This will help them develop their talents and personalities and prepare them for the future by enhancing their skills and making them more outgoing.

Question: Should children be involved in the school's management activities?

Answer: In my opinion, they should be. While participating in management activities, they gain confidence and feel significant. Apart from this, they’ll be able to speak up about their issues and assist the school administration in finding solutions.

Question: How should one behave in the office to get along well with others?

Answer: Everyone ought to act in a composed and civil manner. It is important for people to act professionally in the workplace so that they may get along with managers and supervisors. Everyone should also be kind to others and eager to share their strategies or inventions with them.

Question: Is it important for children in school to get along well with others?

Answer: Indeed, it is crucial to get along with people because children who learn cooperation and coordination in their early years will be more successful adults. Therefore, childhood and school are the ideal times and places for learning to get along with people and form friendships.
