Speaking is an art form that goes beyond simply showing one's language; it necessitates concentration. The cue card component of the IELTS speaking test allows you to express yourself and showcase your language skills freely.
This blog attempts to help readers react to the common IELTS speaking cue card question, "Describe a time when you helped someone." Examinees can demonstrate their language skills on this topic, highlighting the importance of creative ideas and points of view. So, let's start with the blog!
Helping others is something that brings me a lot of joy. I'm always eager to lend a hand whenever I can. I try to support them in any manner that I can. I appreciate that you gave me this cue card topic. Today, I want to share a story about a time when I donated blood.
I volunteered at a blood donation event organised by my William’s Club in Indore. They ran an advertisement in the local newspaper to attract people willing to donate blood since they needed help. I was excited to join in because I've always wanted to help out during health emergencies.
I volunteered at the blood donation camp and encouraged others to do the same. The blood we donated went to the government hospital in our town, where it could help people in need. Since I have a rare blood type (AB negative) and good haemoglobin levels, I was able to donate two bags of blood. Since it might be quite challenging to locate someone with this rare blood type in an emergency, I was happy to donate the extra units of blood.
The club members were really grateful to everyone who donated. They even organised a breakfast for the donors and gave us certificates to thank us for our help.
It felt amazing to know I could make a difference in someone's life by donating blood. I was happy to be able to help out in a meaningful way. After this experience, I decided to donate blood regularly every three or six months.
Donating blood was an enriching experience for me. It felt good to know that I was helping others in need. By sharing my story, I hope to encourage more people to donate blood and save lives.
Living in communities since ancient times, we rely on each other for support and growth. Imagine facing challenges like natural disasters or personal crises without anyone to support you. Undoubtedly, our interconnectedness makes life easier during tough times.
Around a month ago, on my way home from the office, I encountered an injured woman struggling to carry her four-month-old baby and a packet of grocery items. She seemed to be very worried as it was hard for her to carry her baby with that grocery packet in another injured hand. She was initially a little taken aback by my sudden arrival. It makes sense, though, to be cautious while interacting with strangers. I would act in the same manner if I were in her place. But soon, she realised my intentions were genuine, allowing me to assist her further by escorting her home.
Upon reaching her house, the woman gratefully offered me a cup of coffee and insisted I join her for dinner. Despite her hospitality, I politely declined since I had to return home.
Witnessing the relief and gratitude in the woman's eyes brought me an unparalleled sense of joy. Knowing I made a positive difference in her life filled me with warmth and satisfaction.
Acts of kindness benefit others and uplift the giver. Therefore, fostering a culture of mutual help and support enriches our communities and promotes collective well-being.

It is morally right to assist someone in need in any difficult situation. I'd now like to talk about an instance in which I helped someone who was completely unknown to me.
I still remember helping one of my classmates in class 8. So, while conversing with one of my friends, I learned about one of my classmates; his name was Amit Sharma, and he came from a lower middle-class background. He doesn't have enough money to buy expensive course books and stationary materials. So, after hearing this, I decided to help him and give him books, saying that I had some extra. After going back home, I told my father and asked for some extra money to help my classmate.
As soon as I gave him books, I noticed the joy on his face. He also received the highest score on his final term exam, which he took as a topper in my class, which made me feel proud.
I had never felt anything like the happiness I felt at that precise moment. It is a different kind of joy when you contribute to someone’s education and success.
After this incident, he and I became best friends, and since he was at the top of our class and very studious, he started helping me with my studies.
Question: Many people only look out for themselves and never think about helping others. What do you think of this attitude?
Answer: In my opinion, it is a selfish and incorrect attitude. I know it's not a very big deal, but it's an immoral picture of the modern world. I must say that not everyone has become completely selfish. People are in such a rush to fulfil their own desires and goals that they hardly notice those who are less fortunate. People could see others' needs and respond appropriately if they were less preoccupied with their own concerns.
Question: How do you feel after you have helped someone?
Answer: Assisting others not only helps the one in need but also increases empathy and encourages social ties while bringing a sense of contentment and satisfaction to the person helping. Ignoring society's interdependence and self-centeredness leads to disharmony. On the other hand, cultivating a compassionate culture is advantageous to all, resulting in a more progressive and encouraging community.
Question: What is the most important way for a country to help visitors?
Answer: I think language aid is the most common form of support that immigrants need. On the streets, I've noticed a few foreigners who are getting in trouble communicating because of language barriers. Giving them information and helping them with the language barrier is a common way to help foreigners. Also, it's been a wonderful chance for you to speak with someone from a different country.
Question: How do people in your community help one another?
Answer: People in my community support one another in various ways. This includes helping the neighbourhood during tough times, supporting small businesses in the area, and volunteering at community events. When someone is in need, such as after a natural disaster or personal tragedy, there's a sense of solidarity, and people are willing to help with basic resources, time, and emotional support.
Question: How can we encourage children to help others?
Answer: By leading an example, we may inspire children to help others. When they witness these behaviours in elders, they are more likely to imitate adults who show them compassion and support. Additionally, a child's behaviour is reinforced when they are encouraged to assist others. Children can be motivated by including helpful duties in their daily routine, such as housework or community service, and by explaining how their assistance benefits other people.
Question: How can charitable organisations help people?
Answer: Charitable organisations assist people in various ways. They aid by giving money or imparting knowledge that enables people to earn a livelihood. A few organisations also assist in health emergencies by donating blood, medicines, and sanitary items. Apart from this, some organisations also distribute food items or basic things which are required, like clothes and books.
Question: Should schools be responsible for teaching students how to cooperate?
Answer: I think it's important for schools to take responsibility for educating kids about cooperation and helping each other. Unfortunately, greater school competition is causing the opposite, and many children find it challenging to cooperate with others as adults.
Question: Should parents teach helping others to their children?
Answer: Absolutely, individuals from all walks of life should instil kindness in their children. If children grow up with the habit of helping others, they will grow up into responsible adults, and this fosters a positive community in which members look to one another for unwavering support during difficult situations.
