Describe a Time You Moved to a New Home/School Cue Card - Sample Answer 1

Introduction

There is no disputing that moving from one location has advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, we get to meet new people and explore new cultures, cuisines, weather, and ways of life. However, we miss our previous acquaintances and experiences.

When you moved?/ Why did you move?/ Where have you moved?

I had to relocate for work about two years ago. After graduating from college, I accepted a job with a global corporation and relocated to Ahmedabad from Jaipur.

How did you feel about it?

The transition from the farm to the city was difficult at first. The first issue I had was food because I was used to eating handmade organic cuisine, but in an urban environment, we rarely obtain fresh veggies. Furthermore, because I am used to the countryside's peacefulness, the city's rush and bustle was initially a major issue for me. However, as time passed, I began to like city life. I joined a gym to get in shape and meet new people. In addition to this, I joined a bike club. Every weekend, we would ride our bikes to the adjacent countryside places. Overall, moving from one city to another was a wise move for me.

Introduction

People relocate from one location to another for a variety of reasons. I relocated to a larger house than my previous one to be closer to my family.

When you moved?

I previously moved out of my house when I went for graduation to a college in a different city. So, after completing my graduation, I wanted to live back with my family.

Why did you move?

I recently graduated from college and was seeking a full-time job in Banglore. I applied to companies that provide competitive pay and learning possibilities. Fortunately, one of the MNCs hired me as an assistant project manager, and I was looking forward to new opportunities. Aside from that, our previous property was small, with insufficient space to store our belongings. Therefore, we have been looking for a big house for some time. After receiving work confirmation, I began looking for residences and ended up with a lovely, spacious home with a beautiful garden. Rent and maintenance costs were lower than in comparable residences in the region. We were thrilled to have discovered this house.

Where have you moved?

We relocated to a new flat near the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. It is an excellent bus and train route because it is only a 2-minute walk from the famous park. The flat is pollution-free and is away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Even though it is far from my new office, there are several paths to get there faster. The apartment has a range of services such as car parking, security measures such as CCTV, metro water connection, and many more. There are also parks explicitly designed for children and people to play and have fun. Aside from that, there are other groups and communities where you can volunteer and participate in other activities. Overall, this location is well-stocked and meets our basic requirements.

How did you feel about it?

I am pretty happy to be in this flat because it has everything we need. Furthermore, it is less expensive and requires limited maintenance. As a result, I infer that we will never know how things can alter. However, we must be prepared for the next adventure. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity to be able to move and be able to find a fantastic new place.

Describe a Time You Moved to a New Home/School Cue Card - Sample Answer 3

Introduction

It is challenging to move every few years because it means leaving behind familiar surroundings, friends, and neighbours and beginning over in a whole new environment. In this context, I'd like to recall a moment when I was 13 years old and my family relocated to a new location, which is still vivid in my mind.

When you moved?

I had recently completed eighth grade and had a wonderful group of friends with whom I could play and attend study groups. A few days later, my father informed me that we would be relocating due to another transfer. I became upset after learning about the relocation. Anyway, we moved to Jodhpur, and I enrolled at a local high school.

Why did you move?

Because of my father’s job transfers, my family had to relocate frequently, and as a result, I had to change schools multiple times during my childhood.

Where have you moved?

We were in Jaipur earlier, but after my father’s transfer, we had to shift to Jodhpur, which is around 5 to 6 hours away from Jaipur city.

How did you feel about it?

It was quite an overwhelming experience, yet good. I was nervous about my first day of school because it was my first time in a new atmosphere. I got worried and restless when I couldn't find my classroom, but a teacher assisted me in locating it. She taught and later welcomed me as a new student. I was worried when I walked into my allocated classroom because I was the only new student, and everything felt strange. However, they were all exceptionally polite and asked me to join them for lunch and games, which surprised me. I was overjoyed and immediately settled into a new school with my peers.

IELTS Speaking Test Part 3: Follow up questions

Question: Why do people move to a new home?

Answer: There are numerous reasons why individuals relocate. However, most people relocate for work or education. In other words, people relocate when they find a job or enrol in a school that is too far away for them to commute to on a daily basis. Another primary reason is marriage or having children. This is either because they seek independence and privacy or because their previous home was too tiny to accommodate the growing family.

Question: What problems do people face after moving to a new place?

Answer: When people relocate to a new location, the first obstacle they face is adjusting to an entirely new place among strangers. They need to be accustomed to new people and norms. The next step is to locate grocery stores, newspapers, petrol stations and other necessities. Other issues they confront include safety and security; they tend to feel unsafe because they are in a new environment. To counteract this, they must establish a positive rapport with the community.

Question: What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in the same place?

Answer: Security is the most significant advantage of residing in the same location. When you live in the same house will make you feel protected and secure. Next, you know everything about the location, such as which shops sell high-quality products and which sell products at the lowest prices. Then, they know the quickest paths in and out of the building. There are also drawbacks. For starters, these people were unable to experience other people's food and culture. They become fearful of change. Moreover, there are more benefits as moving to a new location provides a range of experiences.

Question: Is it good to move to a new place frequently? Why?

Answer: It isn't good to relocate very frequently, mainly due to financial and personal reasons or from the societal perspective. Moving costs a lot of money. Second, it may be tough to make new acquaintances, and people may miss their previous surroundings. Finally, it can be terrible or too overwhelming for youngsters because it disrupts their educational continuity.
