Students preparing for the IELTS exam encounter various sections; the speaking section is one portion where they get stuck the most. You might be aware that the entire section is 11-14 minutes, during which the students get the cue card topic and have to speak on it for two to three minutes.
Today, to address the cue card section, we have one of the most asked topics: “Describe an enjoyable journey by public transport.” This blog will provide three sample answers and some follow-up questions to help you formulate your own answers.
There are various ways of transport a person can use to commute from one place to another. One such way is public transport, which includes aeroplanes, trains, buses, autorickshaws, and many other vehicles. I want to share an experience where I commuted through public transport.
I went to Ahmedabad in August this year to celebrate my friend’s birthday and the launch of her business.
I used the train to commute to Ahmedabad.
The entire trip was memorable because it had been a long time since I boarded a train, and that too, to be there for my friend’s special day. The train journey, to be specific, was even more memorable because there were two families with toddlers, and it was a delight to watch them interact with each other and become fast friends.
The overall trip was memorable, mainly because I could spend time with a dear friend and be there for her big day. The journey was an added plus because traveling by train is always an adventure, as one gets to see something unexpected.
To sum up, this particular train journey was memorable and gave me some fantastic memories worth discussing.

There are different kinds of people in this world; some like to travel by their private vehicle, while others prefer and enjoy public transport. I like public transport, and that is exactly what I will be sharing today with you: an enjoyable journey by public transport.
I went from Jaipur to Indore to my college in May.
I traveled by bus.
This was a memorable trip for me because it was my first time traveling alone and going to college. I always had a paranoia that I might leave some of my things behind or be unable to reach them properly, but the journey was delightful and everything went well. This ultimately gave me the confidence to travel alone.
As I mentioned, the trip was memorable because it was my first time traveling alone. I learned a few things while traveling alone, which have helped me travel now and become a habit for future purposes.
To conclude, travelling alone was a great experience I was lucky enough to have. It was important for me, and I realised that every person should experience this in their lives.

Choosing the type of public transport is also a major contributor to adding joy to our journey, as each type has unique characteristics. Hence, today, I will be discussing about an enjoyable journey by public transport.
I went to Kolkata from Jaipur when I was 7 years old.
I went there by air with my sister, who was only 11.
This trip was memorable because I was very young and traveling alone for the first time without my parents. It was memorable for several reasons, starting with the fact that the entire staff was very kind to us during the departure and ensured that we were comfortable and had all our belongings. They ensured that we had the numbers of our family members written on a paper with us. Then, during the flight, they gave my sister and me a goodie bag with colouring material, some puzzles, and a lot more for the entire trip.
All in all, the trip was excellent and comfortable. That trip and my parents' confidence in us and the crew made us more independent and confident.
To conclude, the best part about that particular trip was that we were kids, and an experience like that gave us an exciting story to share for the future.

Question- How important do you think public transportation is for a city?
Answer- Public transportation is essential to a city's operation since it provides its citizens an easy and environmentally friendly way to get around. Guaranteeing transportation accessibility for all socioeconomic classes helps ease traffic congestion, lowers pollution, and fosters social inclusion.
Question- Do you prefer public transportation or private transportation? Tell its advantages and disadvantages.
Answer- Public transportation has several benefits, including accessibility and cost, which make it a good choice for various people. It also lessens the influence that private automobiles have on the environment. On the other hand, disadvantages include crammed traffic during rush hours, possible delays, and restricted route flexibility. Even still, my preference is for private transportation.
Question- How can public transportation be improved to encourage more people to use it?
Answer- To encourage more people to use public transportation, investing in infrastructure, expanding the network to underserved areas, and improving the frequency and dependability of services is essential. Additionally, providing incentives like lower prices for frequent commuters may encourage individuals to prefer public transportation over private automobiles.
Question- In what ways can public transportation contribute to reducing environmental pollution?
Answer- Public transportation, especially buses and trains, significantly lowers carbon emissions compared to private vehicles. Through promoting public transportation, towns can reduce air pollution and address climate change. Further reducing environmental effects can be achieved by equipping fleets of public transportation vehicles with electric or hybrid cars.
Question- How did the journey impact your overall travel experience?
Answer- The delightful journey enhanced my travel experience, adding a memorable and soothing element. It enabled me to make beautiful memories and value the process as well rather than just the end result. The picturesque trip I took by public transportation enhanced my vacation experience, offering fresh viewpoints and chances for exploring. It confirmed my choice for environmentally responsible and immersion-based travel.
To sum up, every person has traveled by public transport once in their lives, so it is one of the easier topics to discuss. Make sure to use the time given for preparation smartly and prepare your answers in your head. It is always better to be prepared beforehand.
