Describe an occasion when you waited a long time for a nice thing

Overview

The second task in the IELTS Speaking test is the cue card. One of the things you must keep in mind when responding to the examiner's questions is how to phrase your responses in accordance with the cue card topic.

A cue card, also called a task card, is given to students during the IELTS Speaking Test. It will include three to four questions and some instructions to help you answer them. You won't have the option to change the question, instead, you must discuss the subject of the cue card you were given for the Speaking task. However, you will have a minute to figure out the answer and what to say about it. Prior to speaking on the subject, you will have the opportunity to jot down a few ideas on paper to aid you in your speaking exam.

Overview

Everyone enjoys special days, and the anticipation of that day is worth the post-celebration festivities. I want to write about the waiting period for my surprise birthday celebration here.

What did you wait for?

On my twenty-first birthday, I was ecstatic since it was the first time my friends and family had informed me that they would be throwing me a surprise party. They refused to give me the party's specifics, though. That gave me a lot of anxiety, so I subtly questioned everyone in my family and close friends for any kind of information. Despite this, I received no information, which ultimately made me more anxious.

Why was it special?

Since it was my first surprise birthday party, I was quite excited. They planned to surprise me on my birthday by getting me a cell phone and renting a gorgeously decorated hall. They also purchased a beautiful cake and set up a number of games for entertainment. Since I like animation, it was an animation-themed cake. It was a little get-together that included invitations to all of my friends and cousins, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude in my heart.

Explain how you felt when you were waiting.

I was disguised, and nobody informed me of this arrangement. However, I tried to gather some information from my family members but was unsuccessful. They began preparing for this four days in advance, so I kept guessing. I was anxious yet happy while waiting for us to spend my birthday together for the first time and make enduring memories.

Conclusion

As a result, the four days of waiting proved to be worth the wait as we joyfully and enthusiastically celebrated my birthday.

Overview

People's patience is eroding with time, and most of us dislike waiting for extended periods. However,  I'm a patient person. Therefore, I've waited long for many things, but one stands out and deserves special attention.

What did you wait for?

The thing I had been waiting so long for was the monetisation of my YouTube channel, which happened exactly a year ago.

Why was it special?

I waited a long time for one reason in particular, to enable YouTube revenue. I completed the goal of 4,000 watch hours in just two months, but it took me a whole year to reach the goal of 1,000 subscribers because getting new ones was so challenging.

Explain how you felt when you were waiting.

After I succeeded, I felt as though I was on the moon because my life had undergone a radical transformation. Because YouTube didn't pay me for my work, I didn't take it seriously before it became monetised. But once it did, I started making money, which allowed me to pay for upgrades. The wait was lengthy, but it was worthwhile as I updated my skill set by enrolling in various courses. As a result, I learnt a lot and am now a successful YouTuber.

Conclusion

Overall, it was great when my channel was monetised after so much hard work.

Overview

I feel waiting with loved ones is always a worthwhile experience. I've waited for many things with my loved ones, and I cherish one such wait most fondly, which I am going to describe today.

What did you wait for?

My entire family and extended family decided to travel to Vaishno Devi near Jammu. This trip combines the delights of a beautiful tourist destination with the devotion of a religious centre. We decided to use the road as a means of transportation to make truly memorable experiences. My cousins and I were all excitedly waiting for that day.

Why was it special?

This journey was special to me since, as a child, I always wished to visit the Vaishno Devi temple at least once before dying. Therefore, visiting this spiritual place with my whole family, including my extended family, held a special place in my heart. We also had a trip to Manali planned during that trip, which made it extra special and unforgettable for me.

Explain how you felt when you were waiting.

For me, though, the most memorable part was waiting for it. Since I was so excited to go on our trip with them, we talked and made plans as soon as they arrived. In addition, we all had a great time shopping for weather-appropriate clothing. We also enjoyed the week's dining out, outdoor activities, and night outs.

Conclusion

So, while waiting for that great day to come, we all had a great time planning and then going on vacation.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 - Follow up questions

Question: Are most people patient while waiting?

Answer: In general, people are patient when they have to wait for a short while, but they become impatient when things take longer than expected and they are not told how much longer they will have to wait.

Question: On what occasions do people usually need to wait?

Answer: As we are the most populous country in the world, there are lines everywhere, including public transportation, banks, places of worship, and government offices. People in my country wait for many things.

Question: Do you think teaching people to be more patient is possible?

Answer:  Patience is a critical quality in the current times, and people must learn to manage situations calmly. Impatience has many detrimental psychological repercussions, including tension, irritation, and anger management problems. However, if someone practises patience on a regular basis and is made aware of its advantages, he/she can learn to be more patient. Moreover, I feel it is not possible to teach people to be more patient as I feel it is an inherent quality.

Question: Who behaves better when waiting, children or adults?

Answer: It depends on the circumstances. However, because adults have more experience and are more aware of the circumstances, they behave better than children when they are waiting for something extraordinary. In numerous scenarios, such as while waiting for a ride at a park, children behave better than many adults.

Question: Some people believe that impatience helps the development of technology. Do you agree with that?– Why do you think so?

Answer: To a certain degree, I believe that impatience aids in the advancement of technology since scientists focus more on developing new tools that will make people's lives easier. The advancement of technology would also be multifaceted since impatient individuals who labour in its development can leave no stone untouched. Nevertheless, it has some detrimental effects on society since people who work so hard and quickly may become stressed out and develop a workaholic tendency. As a result, they are unable to interact socially with friends and family.

Question: Compared to the past, are people less patient now? Why?

Answer: I feel, because there was less work and less competition in the past, people were able to manage their time better than in the present. At present, everyone works quickly because there is a lot of work to be done in addition to surviving through competition. Additionally, tasks like cooking and laundry used to take a long time to finish, but in the modern day, they only take a few minutes. As a result, people get accustomed to not having to wait for things. Thus, compared to earlier times, individuals nowadays are less patient.

Question: How to teach children patience?

Answer: There are numerous ways to teach them this skill, I feel. Parents can be the positive role models for their children by gently reminding them that everything takes time. Parents can often use stories like the one about the hare, and the tortoise can also be used to teach them. Additionally, it is possible to teach kids that by being persistent and patient, they can overcome someone who is more skilled than them in a certain area.

Question: What are the positive and negative effects of waiting on society?

Answer: In today's world, waiting has many benefits. For example, it allows you to socialise and engage with others while waiting for something or someone. It facilitates the growth of our social network. Furthermore, conversing with others can help us learn new things and hone our communication abilities. On the other hand, waiting for something needless can make us irritable and stressful. Additionally, it has certain detrimental consequences on our behaviour, such as making us irritable.
