The IELTS speaking test is an in-person interview that assesses your speaking skills for English proficiency. This section of the IELTS is divided into three parts, with cue card themes being the second. So, the cue card section can include any topic on which you will be asked to speak. In this blog, we will go over one of the IELTS speaking cue card topics: Describe an old friend you got in contact with again.
My friend Anushka and I had an extremely close bond. She was always there for me when I needed her and encouraged me when I was down. She used to reside close to my house, and I had known her since I was 5.
She was in my neighbourhood and used to live close to my house, but sadly, she had to move to another city due to her father's transfer, so we lost touch. Anushka and I and our parents had a good bond with each other.
She was a lovely and helpful girl. Also, she was a very studious girl, and since we were of the same standard, she used to help me a lot in my studies.
Since our family and Anshita's family got along well, I got in touch with Anshita again when her father visited our neighbourhood to meet people. To contact her, I asked him to give me her phone number. I called and spoke with her like always when he gave me her mobile number.
It was amazing to talk to her after a long time of around five years. We gelled up well together. We discussed everything that had happened in these five years and remembered when we played games together as kids. Speaking with her again after a long few days was a relief.
Indeed, it was a very good feeling to connect with my childhood friend, who has been an incredible part of my life. We also promised to keep on updating each other from time to time.

Every step you take in life alters it; when you switch employment, you bid farewell to your previous friends and coworkers. We didn't have the time or motivation to look back because we were so focused on settling into our new jobs. Having a decent buddy in life is vital.
I want to talk about a friend I recently got back in touch with after a long break. Her name is Vishika. We were in the same class. We used to go to the same tennis academy, where we used to play and enjoy together.
We were really good tennis partners. Undoubtedly, she was an amazing player. We have also won certain medals as well together. She was not only good at sports but also very good at studying and other extracurricular activities. We both used to sit together for the studies and or class tests.
Once, I planned a trip to Ahmedabad with my family members. Very unexpectedly, we met in one of the famous Gujarati restaurants. She told me that she had shifted to Ahmedabad a few years back due to her job. She is now working as a senior finance manager.
Meeting her startled me in a good way. It was a little awkward at first, but it all got normal after a few minutes. She even invited me and my family for dinner at her home. We also went shopping together and purchased gifts for each other.
We don't have much time to talk now that we've reconnected because we both lead hectic lives with our families and work. But we stay connected through social media platforms and make sure to congratulate each other on our achievements and birthdays.

Because life moves so quickly, losing contact with friends, especially those from school and college, is quite easy. Because I got busy with my career, I lost contact with most of my friends.
I'm going to talk about my friend Sysha, whose contact information I got from somewhere. During my school days, she was my batchmate; we used to have a fun time at that time. We have also participated together in debate competitions several times during those days.
She played the part so well, was kind to me, and had a very understated appearance. Also, She is a very responsible and down-to-earth man.
She and I met during my friend's sister's wedding. Jodhpur was the location of her weddings. I went and spent roughly 4 days with her family there. Sysha was the groom's cousin and was from the bride’s side. We were shocked and amazed to see each other, which was totally unexpected. So, when we met during the wedding, we made sure to exchange our numbers.
She told me she had also come here for the wedding and would be staying here for a week, which delighted me to see her again. Meeting her again surprises me so much. In addition, I once invited her to introduce himself to my parents at my house. It pleased them both to meet her as well.
She seems the same as she used to be in school days. There are usually some pleasant surprises. But, the friends are the ones you never expected.

The examiner will pose questions regarding the subject matter in part 2 of this section. This topic is to explain an old buddy you recently got in touch with again, along with some follow-up questions that can help you improve your speaking skills.
Question: What is the influence of social media on friendships?
Answer: In my opinion, social networking has made it easier for us to keep up our friendships. Everyone is aware that friends are only a click away. However, it has all decreased in-person interaction, which has, I guess, harmed friendships.
Question: Why do people lose contact with each other after graduation?
Answer: Most recent graduates of universities become preoccupied with finding work. In most cases, they are forced to relocate in pursuit of better opportunities, sometimes even to different countries. They lose track of their buddies because they become too occupied with their everyday activities.
Question: Do people in your country like to make new friends?
Answer: Indeed, I believe that socialisation is ingrained in Indian culture and tradition. India is very popular for its welcoming nature and hospitality. We enjoy leaving our homes and striking up discussions with people around us. We establish lifelong friendships with those we meet in our colony, among our families, and at our schools, colleges, and universities. The people over here believe in showing kindness and are helpful in nature.
Question: Do you think old friends are more important to the old or young generations?
Answer: In any case, older people value their old friends more than new ones because they have a lot of memories associated with them and because their friendship in the past was more unselfish than it is now. As a result, individuals have stronger bonds with their former friends than with their new ones. In addition, their buddies are well aware of them and have been privy to their secrets.
Question: Did you still contact your old friend?
Answer: Yes, I still communicate with a few of my previous buddies. Even though I work now, I still have the contact information for a few of my school buddies. We have communication with one another. We communicated with each other over texting platforms for at least a week.
