  • Create your own dictionary by adding new words or synonyms for commonly used words.

  • Additionally, utilise those terms more frequently when conversing with others so that you can quickly memorise them.

Practice Reading a Variety of Materials Every Day

  • Attempt to read as much as you can! You can read content from various sources, such as books, newspapers, reports, articles, and social media. This is a great way to improve your IELTS reading vocabulary.

Understand the Text before Answering

  • You won't benefit from reading quickly because the Reading exam measures how well you can comprehend the content and respond correctly to a question based on it.

  • Therefore, before responding to the questions, you must carefully evaluate the content and comprehend its intended meaning.

  • Flukes or incorrect readings of the text will result in a lower score.

Determine the Important Details

  • Start reading the passage and make a note of the crucial details. The majority of the questions are based on this important information; it will be easier and quicker for you to find the solutions. It is one of the most important IELTS reading tips.

  • Finding the essential details can also assist you in avoiding blunders. By underlining, you will reduce your confusion and increase the likelihood of sticking with the correct response.

  • Try to underline the important details when reading articles, papers, news, etc.

Plan the Timing

The IELTS reading time limit is 60 minutes, and no extra time will be given to you. So, in order to complete the paper on time, focus on time management.

  • Ensure you take some time in the final few minutes to review your response and confirm that you answered every question correctly.

  • Also, you might use the remaining time to concentrate on the query you could not resolve earlier.

  • Splitting your time evenly between all three passages gives you the best chance to attain a high score.

Prevent Spelling Errors

Zero points will be given for any spelling mistake or any incorrect answer.

  • As no points are deducted for incorrect answers, ensure that you answer every question.

  • Sometimes, the answer to your question is exactly given in the passage, so you just have to copy the text from there. In that case, you just have to make sure that you copy the right text and spelling.

Keep an Eye Out for Transitional Phrases

  • Transitional phrases or words join ideas together and aid the reader in understanding their interrelationship, for instance, "however," "in addition," and "moreover."

  • Pay close attention to these terms in the passage since they can offer crucial hints that will improve your understanding of the material and ability to respond to questions.

Stay Calm and Focused

Lastly, the most important tip is to stay calm and focused while attempting the IELTS reading section.

  • If you don't know the answer to a question, take a few calm breaths and don’t get upset. Always read slowly, use active reading techniques, and pay attention to the passage's major points.

  • Moreover, save some time in the last to look again at the unanswered questions.
