Describe when someone gave you something cue card - Sample answer 1

Introduction

In India, giving and receiving gifts on special days like birthdays and anniversaries is quite common. Gifts are a popular way for friends, family, and other relatives to show their loved ones how much they care and love. I want to share with you the story of a birthday present I received last year that was beyond my expectations.

Who gave it to you?/ What was the thing?

I'm going to talk about something that truly thrilled me and surprised me. For my birthday, my father gifted me my dream bike, the Royal Enfield, which I had been eyeing for a very long time. But since I didn't have much money, I chose not to purchase it.

When did you receive it?

I didn't think my father would attend my birthday celebration because he told me he would be going to work that day. After the nighttime cake-cutting ritual, my father contacted me out of the blue and ordered me to go outside the house. When I went outside, I saw a gift wrapped with a red cover standing outside our house. I was filled with excitement at this sight. My favourite bike, Royal Enfield, was there, ready for me. In order to give me the surprise of a lifetime, my father really went above and beyond.

Why you needed it?

I needed this bike to commute to the office, which was around 18 Km from my house. It used to be difficult for me to travel 18 km daily with public transportation. So, I desperately needed the vehicle. Secondly, Royal Enfield was my dream bike, and I always wanted to purchase it someday.

How did you feel about it?

My mother held me while we took some family pictures before we all headed out for a long journey. I was so happy that I didn't know how to react to the situation. It was this moment that I had always imagined myself taking part in. My siblings were also thrilled with my new bike.

Conclusion

I was also thankful to my parents for surprising me with my dream bike. And I will never forget this moment in my life.

Introduction

Giving and receiving gifts is a constant source of excitement and ultimate delight for the giver and the recipient. It's similar to showing our loved ones affection and support. We exchange gifts and enjoy cheerful moments on significant occasions. Young people enjoy gadgets and accessories, adults enjoy jewellery, vehicles, or gold, whereas children enjoy toys.

Who gave it to you?/ What was the thing?

I'm going to talk about the smartphone that my older brother, who works for a big corporation and lives abroad, gave me. Knowing how much I adore technology and electronics, my brother always gifts me electronics whenever he has the chance. This time, he gave me the latest iPhone I had wanted to buy for a while.

When did you receive it?/ Why you needed it?

In honour of my brother's return from overseas and their desire for him to meet all the relatives, my parents hosted a little celebration and get-together on my birthday. Thus, following the cake cutting, he gave me a gleaming red box and instructed me to open it. I opened it, and it was the newest iPhone model. I was ecstatic because it's my favourite phone and looks so beautiful in a deep purple colour.

How did you feel about it?

I hugged my brother and expressed my happiness, thanking him for being so lovely and generous and always surprising me with unique gifts. My parents were thrilled to witness such brotherhood as well.

Conclusion

I will always be grateful for the day I got this gift from my brother.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Follow-up Questions

Question: What is the relationship between shopping and the economy of your country?

Answer: Economy and shopping are related because manufacturers receive revenue from consumers' purchases and then pay taxes to the government. The government makes more money when more people buy things.

Question: What are the things young people like to buy?

Answer: It truly depends on the individual. Given that most of them spend so much time in front of screens, most of them desire technology like phones and video games. Others desire nice clothes or accessories in order to look beautiful, which is fine in moderation as long as they don't become obsessed with it.

Question: How do your friends influence your shopping choices?

Answer: Friends can greatly impact a person's purchasing decisions. They can introduce their friends to new items, companies, and trends, which may have an impact on their friends' purchase decisions. Friends can also provide insight and advice on prospective purchases, assisting people in making better judgements. Furthermore, going shopping with friends may be a pleasant and entertaining social activity. People's decisions when this social factor may also influence shopping because they may feel under pressure to fit in or follow their friends' tastes.

Question: Is consumption important to a country?

Answer: Yes, a nation's ability to expand and develop economically depends greatly on its level of consumption. Customer demand, which results from consumption, drives mass production, creates jobs, and boosts profitability for all businesses. Overconsumption, however, has the potential to be harmful since it fosters a materialistic and consumerist society. It also causes harm to the environment. Therefore, individuals should limit their consumption of commercial items to avoid creating a throwaway society or the aforementioned negative effects.

Question: What should parents do when their children ask for things their friends have?

Answer: Parents should use their children's requests for items that their peers own as a chance to talk about morals and budgeting. Parents must teach their children that their material belongings do not determine a person's happiness or value. Additionally, parents can use this as an opportunity to teach their kids about saving money, budgeting, and postponing gratification. It's also critical to set expectations for spending patterns and to set boundaries. Moreover, parents can take advantage of this circumstance to help their children develop sound decision-making and financial literacy skills that will serve them well in life.

Question: Why do people buy things that are not necessary?

Answer: It's true that sometimes others influence people to purchase goods that won't benefit them in their lives. All they have to do is brag to others about having this kind of gadget in their hands or at home. Even so, they fail to recognise the items' true worth; for example, some individuals purchase expensive cars like Ferraris and numerous other calls. However, they also don't require this kind of more expensive vehicle. Since they are attempting to purchase this type of vehicle, they can get around with only a basic car.

Question: Do people of different age groups like different gifts?

Answer: Yes, different age groups definitely have different gift choices. Young people enjoy gadgets and accessories; adults enjoy jewellery, vehicles, or gold, whereas children enjoy toys.
